Case Analysis:Long term planning a must for success

Avatar James Cameron’s three dimensional (3-D) film ( $2.3 Billion revenue collection till 15th Feb) , has set a new interest in understanding the individual entertainment interest as the film has claimed highest grossing film of all time.
Major electronics manufacturing companies like Sony, Amazon, Philips, Videocon , Samsung, Panasonic , LG Electronics have already investing heavily on coming up with new design to grab the opportunity in the 3D electronic goods like TV, DVD Player, Gaming device(Play station).
Even television networks like Discovery and ESPN is also interested in developing the contents for the television viewer who have owned 2D goggles in there collections and future coming electronic devices.
Which results more and more content and market will be seen in the coming days, also 2D/3D movies like Toy Story 3, How to train your Dragon , Alice in wonderland is already in pipeline.

Few experts , however is still not clear how far the demand to buy the 2D electronic TV will sell in the market as Forrester the leading research shows consumer bought more than 40 million HDTV’s between 2007 and 2009, most of them selling for about $1,000 or less. In 2008 , the best selling HDTV sets were 40 inches or more. In 2009 , smaller screens , which were headed for bedrooms and dens , were the hot sellers.

Above research concludes that al the purchases has happened during the tough time i.e during the recession period, which again proves that consumer switching to own a new 2D TV is pretty less as one has already invested on electronics (TV).

3D TV’s won’t be cheap and television viewers not only watch TV they do multiple things like working on Laptop, talking, cooking, eating etc; and offenly they keep on switching the channels multiple times and what if they switch channel which has no 2D shows when one is using 2D goggle it actually becomes difficult to television viewer .

To overcome this problem Leading Consumer companies are intelligent enough to fix the problem, but what ever they do companies should think in the long term perspective while developing the products in terms of years say 20 years ahead as 2D content takes long time and minimum effort should be involved to consumers up gradation or one should come up with a business model where from the existing Flat screen television plug in module by paying minimum extra amount .i.e, go for Mass rather than minimum to maximum the profit.
Its actually shows how one value consumer needs by coming with a long term solution to meet consumer real needs.
I want to end with Gandhiji’s famous quotes ” A customer is the most important visitor on our premises, he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so. “
